After ten years together, Ethan Mallory and Rhett Solomon are calling it quits and are ready to move on. Thanks to Seattle’s depressed real estate market, though, they’re stuck living as roommates with a hefty mortgage hanging over their heads. In an effort to speed things along, they decide to bring in some extra money by renting out the spare bedroom.

Wilde’s bartender Kieran Frost moves in, and suddenly, the only thing Ethan and Rhett both want more than getting away from each other is getting close to their single, young, hot roommate. Kieran doesn’t mind the attention from both, and he certainly doesn’t mind sharing.

Their combined chemistry ignites something else that Ethan and Rhett had thought was long dead—the mutual attraction that drew them together in the first place.

Except bitter jealousy over Kieran could push them even farther apart…

This 53,000 word novel was previously published and has been lightly revised.

The Distance Between Us Wilde Book 2 edition by LA Witt Romance eBooks

First, this is a "couple separated, using a third to feel better" story. There are some lessons here for the attentive, about respect and particularly about pushing for communication. Being a third is its own set of challenges, including demanding respect and consideration. I think the author handled the dynamics well. That's why I wanted to enjoy this more than I did.

I finished it because it entertained me enough. Central is Rhett's difficulties with communication, an aspect of successful relationships no matter what the configuration. Ethan and particularly Kieran had all my sympathy, as I'm sure the author intended. The plot was great, the tensions came through clearly. However, Rhett's inner dialogue is written as telling, telling, telling far more than we see him act out. Showing is, or can be, more subtle. It assumes the reader is paying attention, and that's a compliment. There are also two chapters that start by restating what the previous chapter ended with - an editing error, I assume.

I did like the evolutions in their sex scenes, and I did like how the story ended. That last bit's important. :)

The Distance Between Us Wilde Book 2 edition by LA Witt Romance eBooks Reviews

Rhett and Ethan had called it quits and barely spoke with each other unless it was arguing. To help meet expenses they took on a room mate Kieran. Kieran loves sex and did both Rhett and Ethan and then they had a three way. Things became awkward not because of the sex but the tension and jealousy between them all. Kieran decides to move out. Rhett and Ethan have a heart to heart. What happens in the end satisfy them all.
I read the 2nd and 3rd books first because I don't, personally, understand how someone can share someone they love with another person so I didn't think I'd enjoy reading about it. However, I loved the other books so much and loved all three characters whose story started in this book that I decided I had to read their story. After all, I knew there was a HEA. I am so happy I did.

Yes, it was difficult to read about Rhett and Ethan's failed relationship and even harder to imagine what it would be like to know the other person was with Kieran... but you can't help but to become drawn into the hot sex between them. Just look at the cover to see how HOT they are. I don't want to give too much away, but Ethan's reaction during one of the threesomes helped me to see that you can definitely separate your feelings for the two partners and it can be just sex with one but so much more with the other.

I think you'll find you'll fall in love with these men...if not after the first book, you will by the time you finish all three. That's why I had to come back and read their story.

I would have given it 5 stars but I would have liked if the author gave a little bit more background about what started the process of their failed relationship...other than just not communicating.

All three books in the series will become part of my collection of books to be read again. You really will love the characters.
My Review
This book is like nothing I've ever read before. Ethan and Rhett are in the middle of a break-up after ten years together. They've just slowly drifted apart, but before they decided it was over, they bought a house together. Now it's not financially feasible for them to sell the house, so they are stuck in it together, trying to get enough paid off on it so they can sell it. To that end, they decide to rent out their spare room to another roommate. It just so happens that their new roommate is hot, sexy, and a bit of a manwhore who isn't opposed to sleeping with his new roommates....both of them.

This is a bit of a hard book...just because there are so many confused feelings. For Ethan, he just wants it all to be over. This is so hard because living together after the breakup is just prolonging the pain and hurt feelings. Suddenly this man that he's loved is the enemy and things are difficult, if not impossible, between them. In addition both men are having to deal with the fact that someone they love is sleeping with someone else. Can you imagine the pain involved with having to listen to that? Yeah, this book was not easy.

But the entire book is an evolution as these guys grow and learn how to make this work. As in most breakups, assumptions were made that were incorrect. One person acts one way in reaction to the other person's actions and perceived feelings (which were deciphered wrong) and everything snowballs from there. It's a good lesson about what's worth fighting for. After ten years you would think that what these guys have together is worth that.

Then there's Kieran, who was an interesting character into the mix. I'll admit, I read book #2 in this series first, so I feel like I know Kieran's character pretty well. What an eye-opener this was for how much of a manwhore he was before meeting his perfect man in book #2.

I like this series and now need to read book #3...Dale's story.
3.5 stars

I was looking for a menage book and helloooooo - "The Distance Between Us" DEFINITELY fit the bill.

This one started out a little rough for me, though. Rough enough to threaten my kindle's life with a good beating against the wall. It's difficult to read about a former couple using the new guy to one up each other. I suppose I'm used to reading menage when all participants are willing and on good terms with each other but ughhhh I was getting a bit ticked off at only 10%. That's what guys do, right? Jump right into things and piss you off. ;)

I did end up enjoying it, and kudos to the author for navigating 3 guys in the many steamy bedroom scenes without me having to question whose hand is on whose ass and which cock is in which mouth. Hey - you go read an m/m book where those things aren't clear and see how much fun it is.

I've got a few more L.A. Witt books on my list, so I'll be getting to those in the very near future. Saucy fun.
