I am not typically a sci-fi/fantasy book reader. I do feel it is more fantasy than sci-fi, but, never the less, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The book appealed to me, in the beginning, because Alex, a young journalist, is from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, which I am familiar with. I soon became enthralled with "all" the characters. They were fun, exciting and full of life. I felt like I was right there with them in their quest to find the truth of what they always thought were "myths". I can even picture what Alex, Ghaoithe, Fleet..... and the rest of the crew look like This was a very easy read and I did not want it to end. I want to be on that ship, the Cloudkicker, for the next installment of this series....Product details

I absolutely loved this book. I didn't want to put it down. The twists and turns kept me wanting more! The characters were awesome! I couldn't pick a favorite. Can't wait for the next book!

This book was very entertaining. It made me want to read more. This would be great for older children as well as adults. I highly recommend this book to any sci-fi reader.
I was a little skeptical with the "Person discovers a secret world and goes on a magical adventure" summary, but The Sky Thief keeps the story fresh with excellent characters and a spot-on sense of pacing. An interesting, unique take on the archaeologist hero and hidden magic world concepts that is sure to leave you wanting more.
